I find that people create Life Stories for many different reasons. For the most part, it's about a family member. But what about your Pet? They deserve to be remembered for all the wonderful things they do and the joy they give us. So if you love your pet and have some great memories, then let's get started on creating an ongoing Celebration of Life of your best friend.
First: Look through all your pictures of your Pet. When viewing them, think of the story behind each picture and decide if it is a memory you want to document.
Second: Write a summary of the event to go with each picture.
Third: Put the pictures/summaries in the order you want to tell your story.
Fourth: Ask everyone that knows your Pet what they think of him/her and if they can recall anything special. Also ask what their first impression was of the Pet the first time they met.
Fifth: Document the specifics:
* When did you get your Pet? Where? Why?
* Was he/she a stray, abandoned, shelter animal?
* What happened when you first brought him/her home? Be specific with actual actions performed. Went through the house exploring, wet the floor, started chewing/playing/barking etc.
* How was he/she accepted into the family?
* What are the habits that make him/her unique?
* What special tricks can your pet perform? Especially the ones you didn't teach him/her. (You know, the ones they learned by themselves.)
Sixth: Now comes the fun. Take all the above information and begin to assemble the information viewing the world from your Pet's perspective. That is, consider how your Pet might think, respond and behave during all of the memories you all have created.
Seventh: Then begin to write the story as if you were telling it in your Pet's voice. Each picture/summary will have a specific period of time that will trigger your memory. Be sure to think of what you believe they may have been thinking.
Eighth: Continue to add to this story every month. If this is to be used as a remembrance of a lost pet, then the Life Story should end with what you did at the time they passed.
Ninth: Create a LifeStory PhotoBook, DVD, Photo Collage of your work. If you don't know how, find a professional that specializes in this area.
Tenth: Be proud to show your work to family and friends. Your Pet will appreciate you and your efforts for thinking of them as part of the family. Above all, enjoy the journey. It will be more fun than you know.
